The
Gift of power, a word with many different meanings such as Authority. To be
able to rule over someone or something is what people strive for. Although,
there are many ways to obtain power, which would be considered as “pursuit of
power.” Pursuit of power was portrayed in Macbeth by William Shakespeare, a
story about a brave warrior sworn to his country who decided whether or not to
pursue power and stay an honest man, or to follow a dark path to power.
However the person intends to pursue power it will still be considered the
“pursuit of power” and it will not matter on how you pursue power. Such as how
Macbeth shows how desperate he is for power when he shows what methods he will
use to acquire it. Macbeth then kills his own friend for power “now I’ll go,
it’s as good as done. The bell is my invitation. Do not hear it, Duncan it’s a
bell that summons you to Heaven or to hell!” Although, at first he doubts
himself, not knowing whether or not to continue anymore, but it’s too late for
him to turn back.
Macbeth then eventually becomes King due to his murder of the previous King
Duncan. Although, the past still haunts causing him to be paranoid and
corrupted; He wants to ensure his place on the throne of power. In his efforts
to stay King, he intends to kill his own war friend Banquo, “Both of you know
Banquo was your enemy/ He’s mine too, and such a deadly one.” He then
kills him securing his spot on the throne, however, the previous Kings Sons are
still a threat to him.
Malcolm, The Eldest son of King
Duncan, heir to the throne, who ran away to England, seeks revenge and help. “I
think there would be many who’d fight for my cause. The gracious King of
England offered several thousand men.” They plot to overtake the so-called King
of Scotland Macbeth, and restore peace throughout the land and return the
throne back to Malcolm.
Overall, throughout the story, lies
and sheer determination lead to the pursuit of power. Corruption had occurred and
innocent lives were taken only to receive the gift of power, but it wasn’t even
worth it. This story showed how easily temptation can get to someone.
I feel like you essay was rushed toward the end but the beginning was good. Also remember to refrence correctly
