Coming of Age Draft Essay

Waking up in the morning, getting ready to go to a new school, I think about all the possibilities that could happen, thinking about all the new people I could meet, all those idea’s popping up in my head that make me wonder what will happen. I continue to think while I feel my hands shake due to my curious personality, “what will they think about me?” all these thoughts that I think of that keep me nervous. Although, since my brother attended this school before, I would always see him play in his basketball games and meet some of his friends; I also met someone on his team that was the same grade as me.
On the first day of school, my brother came with me to show me where my class would be and he also helped me with my heavy school supplies. And as I walked into the class I see the person I had met that was on my brother’s basketball team, and he also remembered me and said “hey!” I was still nervous because I didn’t know how private schools were like since I came from a public school. I also felt weird because it was the first time I wore a uniform before, but I didn’t bother me as much. As I sat in my assigned seat, I sat next to a girl, she seemed friendly as she greeted me knowing that I was a new student, so I knew she attended this school before.
As I began my new life in private school, I knew some of the teachers because they attended the church that I go to. Also, I was a pretty small person being about 4’10 and I didn’t go through puberty so I had a pretty high voice. I didn’t really talk to anyone besides the boy I met from the basketball team. As I met more people throughout the year, I became comfortable and actually talked, but some people didn’t like my really high voice so I was always teased for it. Although, even though some people constantly bullied me, there was always some kind people who helped me out and cheered me up. There were quite a lot of bullies, but for some reason, there was this one bully that hung around, I’m not sure why but I found him as a friend, he’d always tease me but there was time were he would tell me things like his life and I’d do the same. He gave me rides home because id have to take the bus, but I always wanted his attention.
Throughout my middle school, I was still constantly bullied, but I just didn’t mind it, I just let it go, people always said I looked happy a lot, only because whenever I’m down, people would always come up to me and ask if I’m okay but that would only remind me more about what I’m down about so I just answer with a simple “I’m just tired.” This went on throughout middle school, and when high school started, everyone separated, but certain boys including me, were still close because we would have a skype group call almost everyday. Although, during high school, only four boys and four girls including myself, came to the same high school. One of the boys bullied me and talked behind my back and I was close with the other two boys so he stopped bullying me because he was a shy person and only knew us mostly so he hung out with us.

Throughout the year he began to respect me more because we became friends hanging out a lot and at the time my voice wasn’t as “high pitched” as it was in middle school. Having these past bullying events has given me more knowledge about how it felt to be bullied then respected. I know how to deal with bullies along the way, and I chose which friends that I’d want hang out with due to all the events that have occurred throughout my middle school.

Group Position Statements

Group position statments: Sage, Tyler S, Hannah, and Christian
1. First off, the people who got into accidents got involved
themselves into activities
    • For example, Daniel Dick, who was an 18-year-old, was lifted 3-5
feet after straddling a blowhole.
    • David Potts fell into a blowhole after dancing around it. Even
more surprising was the fact that he was 44.
    •  Paula Ramirez, 29, and Elizabeth Brem, 35, apparently walked
off of a steep cliff near Opaekaa Falls, in Kauai.
2. Most, if not all, locations have warnings of the dangers in the
area. The people who didn't heed the warnings were basically asking
for it.
3. Naturally, adults have a better understanding of the consequences
of their actions. Also, these people should have known better than to
do weird things in a place they didn't know properly. Your conscience
should be able to keep you from straddling a blowhole.

Metaphor Poem: SunShine

I am the Sun,
Shining my bright warm UV light rays
That act as my kindness,
Giving warmth to all living things.
I am the light that guides people
Throughout the day
There will be random times when I will still shine,
But it will also be raining.
I am the energy source people count on
for various reasons
When your around me, sometimes
I feel a bit hot headed,
I'll give off sun burns.
I'll help all living things grow
Also, there will be times when my
light will be blocked off by rain clouds,
The land will become wet and cold,
But i will always shine again to be
The light people count on for warmth.

(Final)-KC3-Sub-topic: Technology

Hawaii’s Technology

Our technology is currently developing rapidly and our technology is also getting more complicated and more advanced. Hawaii benefits from our technology by being able to do much more helpful things, such as researching on hawaii's environment etc. Although, technology requires electricity which also costs money, and currently Hawaii is finding out ways to make technology cheaper. Hawaii is also using its own technology to help its tropical environment to preserve our natural resources and wild life.
Hawaii's technology is basically based on aquaculture technology and research on hawaii's environment such as scenery and landscape. Hawaii is very fortunate to be the world-center of aquaculture expertise in a wide variety of different species and technologies. Hawaii has been having its own private and public research organizations that have pioneered the development of extensive, semi-intensive, and intensive culture systems and regularly seek information around the world. The fact that Hawaii is the world-center of aquaculture expertise, I believe that it is a good thing, considering that Hawaii is a tropical place and also surrounded by water helps the researchers that are researching on hawaii. Being surrounded by water will be a lot easier to the researchers since their research is based on aquaculture technology. Local entities have extensive expertise in spawning and taking care of mullet, milkfish, fresh water prawns, marine shrimp, and marine finfish. Spawning these types of fishes is a good advantage considering that some parts of the world don’t spawn these types of aquatic animals anywhere else around the world.
Hawaii is home to its own leading technology companies in seaweed production and micro-algae.The production of seaweed will help our oceans environment and help sea life and make healthy habitats. Also micro-algae will also help because we can also use our technology to convert algae as a sustainable source of alternative resource. There are over 30 different types of plants and animals that are researched and raised in hawaii, they are grouped into four categories, algae, seaweed, shellfish, and fin-fish. Researchers use our technology today to research all those species that inhabit hawaii. Researching all those species would be a benefit just for hawaii so we know more about the different plants and animals for possible safety reasons.
Hawaii is also starting to use renewable energy; they are starting to use solar panels and also use wind farms. Now that hawaii has started using renewable resources. We can now use our technology cheaper. Also, prices would go down for electricity bills and that would help the economy a little. Currently 19 high schools in Hawaii recently have installed solar panels on their school roofs, it is said that they will save the Department of Education a lot of money on electricity, that would mean Hawaii's school will have a higher chance of getting more educational technology.
Hawaii's technology now has benefited us in so many different ways, we have found out so much and discovered a lot of different things with technology. Technology is now advancing quickly and we are inventing new technology. Hawaii being a small place, our amount of technology is limited, and we must conserve the resources we have. Overall Hawaii's technology is beneficial to all of us.
